STAND-UP STYLES OF REALISTIC SELF-DEFENSE

ARE YOU TRAINING FOR REALITY?

In a street real scenario, three assailants vs. you in a parking lot. You cannot possibly go to the ground with the first assailant, the other three would be on you in a second and or kicking and attacking you while you grapple on the ground. Stand up self-defense is crucial in multiple attacker and weapon disarm scenarios.

Our style of training does include ground escape and ground fighting in case you do fall and/or are knocked to the ground. However our goal is to get back to an upright position as quickly as possible for survival.

Our finishing techniques involve submissions and final techniques that are from a standing or kneeling position giving us the quickest reaction time to the 2nd or 3rd attacker. (street realistic training)

Competition is different from the street, do not be lured into thinking your ground grappling is an effective street real response in all situations. In a one on one isolated situation virtually any style can be effective. However how many attacks are purely one on one and isolated? In the scenario in a parking lot against two or more attackers, you will not be able to put your back on the ground and survive. There will be no such thing as ground based arm bars, choke holds, or tap outs. It's not reality.

You must be able to separate competition from reality. Do this by bringing a 2nd attacker into your training and ask yourself during each technique, "How will I deal with the second attacker? " The answer is simple, remain on your feet at all costs. At Royal Dragon our focus is street reality at all times.
