TRADITIONAL TAEKWONDO
 
"THE ART OF THE HANDS AND FEET"

 The  style of  TaeKwonDo, or the art of the feet and hands dates back to 50 B.C. Originally it was taught to the Hwarang soldiers for devastating fighting techniques on the battlefield. These soldiers were revered in their respective villages and towns for their superior fighting skills, and their moral lifestyle and code of ethics (not for their ability to win trophies and medals). TaeKwonDo has a rich tradition of skill. Skills are based upon devastating kicks, hand strikes, blocks, and other self-defense skills useful in a variety of situations.  This art also has a sport and Olympic version which is the National Sport of Korea. In our school we train in the traditional Martial Art focusing on Self-Defense. Our students are encouraged to participate in competitions and tournaments, however this is not the focus of our school and it is not mandatory.

In modern society we are all at risk of  crime, home invasions, ATM robberies, RAPE, child abduction, car-jacking, etc. TaeKwondo is taught at Royal Dragon Martial Arts as the traditional art of the hands and feet and with great respect for its history, tradition and self-defense skills. This art was not created to win trophies, it was created as a system of self-improvement and self-defense. Tournaments are fun, and there are those students who are comfortable with the Martial Arts competing. Other students are practicing the Martial Arts for the Art, and for the personal benefits.  Our main school focus is self-defense, and self-improvement.  Our instructors apply the art to our American culture in such a way that it is easy to understand, and fun to learn. All students progress at their own pace, are challenged enough to remain motivated without getting frustrated or discouraged. The result is a healthier stronger mind and body, and a more confident and safer individual.

THE RIGHT SCHOOL

* We promote by skill level not by how many weeks you have been in class.
 Some schools rush to promotion so they can collect their testing fee. We operate with traditional Martial Arts ethics and promote when you are ready.

 * We do not focus on tournament style training. 
The point system and trophies will not save you in a real life threatening situation. You will not see trophies lining our school walls, you will see real life self-defense training. Some of our students do attend tournaments and they do exceptionally well however that is not the weekly focus at our school. We do not do sparring drills, we do real world drills. Our Taekwondo is taught like a traditional Karate style. The Art of the Hands and feet, not the art of winning trophies with acrobatic skills. We teach pure self-defense.

*  We provide Positive & Safe Training.
 We hear horror stories about other schools with the instructor screaming, belittling or flat out insulting students. We also hear horror stories of over the top dangerous sparring and contact. We focus on positive motivation for our students. In regards to sparring we offer a safe and very controlled environment to build real world skills. We do not promote brawls between our students, everything we do is to train and learn effectively and safely.

* We are not a Corporate Belt Factory School.
 If you have to pay for Federation fees, additional certification fees and you are being retailed to death you are in the  wrong school. Our school has no such fees and we do not mandate that our students purchase or participate in anything. You have complete freedom and choice within our school and we do not operate with contracts, renewal fees, or Federation fees.

* We have had the same owners for over twelve years!
 Some schools change owners every year. Rules change, format changes, school changes. At Royal Dragon we have ten stable years of Martial Arts instruction in Brandon, you are joining an established school, not a "fly by night school". Many Dragon's have come and gone, but the "Royal Dragon" has reigned supreme in Brandon.
